a Dynasty of Ironfounders – the homes that the Darbys built
A short walk from Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron up the hill lie the beautiful Darby Houses, former homes to the Darby family.
Rosehill House, built in 1738, and Dale House, built in 1717, sit on the hillside overlooking Coalbrookdale, so that the industrialists who lived there could have easy access to their place of work.
Unfortunately it is not currently possible to visit the rooms where the Darby family lived as the Darby Houses are closed in 2025 while conservation work funded by the National Heritage Memorial Fund takes place.
However, you can still see the outside or find out more about the building's history here. Try our Life of Iron itinerary if you would like to find out more about iron and its significance in the Ironbridge Gorge.
