Younger visitors to Blists Hill Victorian Town and Coalbrookdale can eat for free next month as the museum launches its ‘Kids Eat Free’ scheme ahead of the October half term.
From Saturday 1 October, kids under 16 will eat free at the town’s famous Fried Fish Dealer, where families can enjoy traditional fish and chips, cooked in beef dripping. Appealing to more modern dietary requirements, the Fried Fish Dealer now offers both vegan and vegetarian options too.
Children will also eat free at the Forest Glen Refreshment Pavilion, which offers a range of hot and cold meals as well as the Furnace Kitchen in Coalbrookdale. The offer is valid with the purchase of an adult meal and will run until Sunday 30 October.
Abbie King, Chief Operating Officer at The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, said: “We are all aware of the rising pressures on family finances, especially as we move into the winter and we wanted to do something to hopefully make things slightly easier for families visiting us through October.
“Crucially we wanted to make sure we could extend the offer beyond the half term week so we’ll be running it in our participating food outlets from Saturday 1 until Sunday 30 October to make sure as many families can benefit as possible.”
With plenty of family fun in store throughout half term, Halloween arrives early in Blists Hill on Sunday 23 October when visitors will be able to see how the Victorians celebrated the spookiest time of the year. As the period that created many of the traditions we know and love today, visitors young and old can enjoy a slice of All-Hallows Eve 1900s style.
“With so many exciting events taking place, from Halloween-themed parlour games to special showings of a Victorian horror film, we can’t wait to welcome visitors of all ages to the town next month for a spooktacular half term!” Abbie adds.
Additional half term activities are free with museum admission, with discounted rates for PASS PLUS holders. For more information or to book your tickets, visit: www.ironbridge.org.uk
