IGMT museum closures in 2025

The Darby Houses, Broseley Pipeworks and the Tar Tunnel, three of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust’s ten museums, will not open in 2025.

Nick Ralls, Chief Executive Officer at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, said:

“Due to financial constraints and therefore limited resources, we have had to make the difficult decision not to open Broseley Pipeworks and the Tar Tunnel in 2025. The Trust, as an independent charity, has been affected by an increase in costs and the cost-of-living crisis, and therefore has taken the tough decision to focus its resource on fewer sites.

“The Darby Houses will also not open in 2025, as we have received funding through the National Heritage Memorial Fund to conserve and repair the buildings.

“Our other sites remain open, and our PASS and PASS PLUS remain our best-value tickets.

“By temporarily closing our smallest if, we know, well-loved museums, which in 2024 were open just a few weeks of the year, we believe it will have least impact for our pass holders. We are very grateful to our pass holders, as their purchase guarantees the Trust year-round support which helps it be more resilient at times like this.”
